Create a family portrait and choose an activity to do with your family. Later in the month, you may wish to try one of the Halloween activities.

FAMILY

My Family Portrait

Provide your child with drawing materials, such as paper and crayons or markers, and invite them to draw their family. As your child works, or when they are finished, ask some of these questions:

  • Who is in your family?

  • What do you like to do with your family?

  • What is special about your family?

  • What holidays does your family celebrate? What do you like best?

  • What are you looking forward to doing with your family?

Family Fun

Choose one of the activities your child likes doing with the family and do it this month. If they need ideas, you might suggest a favorite game, a favorite movie, a walk to collect leaves, an outdoor field day, an indoor game night, a story evening to read or tell stories, or a craft day.

HALLOWEEN

If you celebrate Halloween, enjoy a family tradition or begin a new one, such as painting pumpkins or making a special treat. You might also consider one of these crafts.

Handprint Spider or Bat

Help your child trace both of their hands onto black paper. Help them cut along the outlines and make the hands into a spider or bat. See https://thrivinghomeblog.com/halloween-spider-handprint-craft/ or https://www.simpleeverydaymom.com/handprint-bat-craft/.

Handprint Ghouls

Help your child trace their hand onto color paper. Help them cut along the outlines and invite them to decorate them, making them into monsters or ghouls. See https://craftsbyamanda.com/halloween-hand-print-ghoul-banner.

Haunted House

Identify cardboard boxes and other materials your child can use to create a haunted house. Make sure to cut doors and windows for them, if those are desired. See https://www.parents.com/holiday/halloween/crafts/make-your-own-haunted-house/ for a few ideas.
