UUCR has formed an Ad-Hoc Committee on Refugees.
On December 7, 2016, the UUCR Board approved a request to establish an Ad-Hoc Committee on Refugees. This committee reports directly to the Board. Its mission is to explore possible ways for UUCR to support refugee families who settle in Northern Virginia - both families already being assisted by UU Congregation of Fairfax and UU Congregation of Sterling, and other families yet to come.
The Ad-Hoc Committee on Refugees will work with UU congregations experienced in refugee sponsorship to identify the necessary resources and logistics to sponsor refugees. Committee members will attend formal training with Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Services and gather information from the US State Department in order to fully assess the requirements and impacts of sponsoring refugees. This information will be shared with the UUCR Board and congregation as the committee progresses.
Resources, Quick Updates and upcoming events are available on the right. For additional information, or to join the committee, please contact Committee Chair Beth Hauck.
